For me, being the ultimate cake lover, makes going for an afternoon tea the perfect event for catching up with friends or celebrating a special occasion with family.
I arranged a surprise birthday treat for my Mum’s birthday and decided to go somewhere a little bit different. We’d previously been to the Ritz as well as a couple of other hotels for the more traditional afternoon tea so when I found the Mad Hatter’s Tea party at the Sanderson hotel I thought the whole concept sounded amazing!
When you are shown to your table the first thing I noticed were the plates- we all had a different set design including zebras and birdcages. Whilst we waited to be served we all spent a few minutes checking out each others plates and it made a nice change to the more traditional Denby sets featured at other venues.
Mini savoury wraps soon followed with an assortment of fillings ranging from smoked salmon and lemon butter on dark rye bread to egg mayonnaise with watercress on lemon bread.
The most exciting part for me was definitely when the sweet stand arrived with an assortment of delights – these included carrot meringue on pea shoots, strawberry marshmallow mushrooms a green tea and white chocolate mousse. The presentation of all these wonderful treats almost made it a shame to eat them all…well almost.
The piece de la resistance was the “drink me” potion which was had kept us intrigued whilst we were eating the other sweet treats…for those reading I’m not going to ruin the surprise so will leave that for you to find out!
The attention to detail is second to none and the quality of the food served is outstanding. I would totally recommend this place for a special family occasion perhaps a special birthday for your Mum or Dad or for a hen do activity. It is so much more than just afternoon tea and a whole amazing experience with the way all the parts of the afternoon tea have been designed.
